Follower Fridays

Q: What’s the most unique character name you’ve come across?

A: This may be a popular answer when Friday comes around, but I'd definitely say ANY of the names in the Hunger Games series. They were all different and cool at the same time, but it never felt like the author was trying too hard to be unique to me. Somehow the names just seemed to fit in that type of world. I actually don't care for characters to have unique names because it usually does feel like the author is trying too hard. HG was just one of those special circumstances where it worked. What about you guys?

New follower from the blog hop. I agree the character names in the HG really worked in with the world created.

I loved the names in THG. I think they were very different, but they worked. Off the top of my head, I can think of Terrible and Chess from Downside Ghosts, Sirantha Jax from the series with the same name, and Annabelle Lee, Hitch and Tucker from Annabelle Lee.

I always love it when the main character has a unique name because almost, in a way, it gives me a better reading experience! I myself have pledged not to name any of my children by common names because I love unique names far too much.

The Hunger Games definitely has a fun and unique set of character names. I'm looking forward to reading the series before the movie comes out.

I totally agree with you on the "traditional" names in Hunger Games. Nothing flashy, just names that sound like they'd be classic in the future. Gale, Primrose, Peeta - great names!

Thanks for visiting me - I'm following you back (check your twitter button up top, I couldn't get it to work, but it could have been my Firefox browser). Have a great weekend!

Someone else mentioned Katniss in their answer, and I was struck by the fact that I'd never really thought about the names in Hunger Games, though as you said, they're almost all unusual. I'd love to know the inspiration for a lot of the names! Thanks for stopping by. I'm a new follower, and hope you have a great weekend.

I'm actually surprised it wasn't as common an answer as I thought it would be! Knowing about the names would be awesome!
